The Single, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Paean Black, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling.

I’ve always found vinyl records to be miraculous. The fact that music is contained in the grooves of the vinyl always makes them feel like deeply mysterious and magical objects. And the capacity of music to change a moment or a mood is also miraculous; this is a painting of a song - a song which comes on the radio out of the blue and changes a plain block of black paint into something atmospheric and exciting.

The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of 12 beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.

The Single is part of the Greatest Hits range. These are the paintings with a colour / subject combination which I paint more than once, because they’re a dream to paint. The painting you buy might not be the exact one that is photographed here. Every single painting is subtly different of course, but you can be assured that I only let tip top paintings leave my studio, I am extremely strict about that. The paintings are ready when they start to sing a little song, and you can be sure that you will receive a singing record!

I developed this range in response to the speed at which the original paintings have been selling. I want to make it possible for more people to own an original and it opens up the possibility of building up a lovely collection over time.
