“When I had the idea to turn a red paint chip into a red carpet, it seemed so perfect that I couldn’t understand how I’d never thought of it before. This is a nighttime scene and the red of Incarnadine is dark but glowing, because it’s illuminated by artificial light. It made sense to paint the figure from behind, so that we see what she sees - a bank of hungry photographers and hundreds of flash bulbs. The red carpet (like the red paint chip) is a stage, a place where her image is made.”

The Oscars, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Incarnadine, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it’s served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

The painting is signed and dated on the reverse and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
