“I had the idea to make this painting on December 21st last year, the actual shortest day. On that day I was all caught up in the pre-Christmas flurry and the atmosphere I had in mind to paint - quiet, gentle, hazy light, low sun, cold open field - couldn’t have felt more remote. I finally sat down to paint this landscape at the end of February, just as the days were getting longer and the daffodils were coming out. Winter can feel so dark and long but I do think sunlight is at its most beautiful in the middle of winter on a really cold day, ideally when there’s nobody else around! That’s the scene I set out to paint here and I enjoyed remembering it, just as Spring was about to arrive.”

The Shortest Day, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint chip for Calluna, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it’s served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This painting is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.

UK delivery is £5.50 (Royal Mail Signed For) and delivery for the rest of the world is £15 (Royal Mail International Tracked).
