“When I started this painting I set out to transform this flat mid-grey into a road, by adding a simple blue sky, and then I paused to see what happened. Straight away it suggested an open motorway, and a pleasant, empty stretch of time for uninterrupted conversation, music or enjoyable silence. A motorway has the capacity to be very boring and very beautiful at the same time, and I love this balance of plainness and imagined possibility in a painting.”

The Motorway, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball colour chip for Lamp Room Gray, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of 12 beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow and Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed. This is a unique painting; there is only one.

The miniature is signed and dated on the reverse, and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
