“I’m going for a new level of detail with the bird paintings now, and it’s as far as my eyes and my brush can go! I always use a brand new paint brush and there’s a lovely connection between the pin prick precision of a new brush and the soft texture of the bird’s feathers painted at this scale. It’s important not to overwork them, despite the detail. I think it’s really important that the painting looks light and swift, to communicate the lovely uplifting chirpiness of a small bird in winter.”

The Grey Wagtail, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball colour chip for Wimborne White, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow and Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

The painting is signed and dated on the reverse, and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
